What is the purpose of life?

“You reap what you sow..” (Gal. 6:7) Everything we do in this world has implications for eternity.

Just as our departure from our mother’s womb marks our birth into this world, so our departure from this world marks our birth into the next, where we will inevitably be reunited with God in His eternal Kingdom – the only difference being our spiritual state, whether good or bad, in relation to Him.

The Holy Mysteries (or Sacraments) of the Church, and especially the three initiatory Sacraments (Baptism, Chrismation and the Eucharist), prepare us for this Kingdom and share it with us whilst we are still on this Earth.

The purpose of our life, therefore, is union with God, the Source of all goodness and love – the Giver of life. This union is accomplished via our will, the help of the Holy Spirit, and through the work of divine grace (which connects the Divine with the human).
