Baptism - Chrismation - the Eucharist The Gates of Entry into the Kingdom of God
Baptism means participation in the death and resurrection of Christ, who is both fully divine and fully human: we die symbolically and sacramentally, through complete immersion in water three times, in the name of the Holy Trinity, and we rise again by coming out of the baptismal font three times. Our old self, which is spiritually sick, disappears, and our new self, healed in Christ, emerges.
The effects of Baptism
Through Baptism, the consequences of original sin (of Adam and Eve) are erased – that is, spiritual death, separation from God, inner darkness, etc. All personal sins committed up to that moment are also forgiven;
We become members of the mystical Body of Christ, the Church, through which, throughout our lives, we can receive the sanctifying grace which unites us with God.
